Business
Hours
Business hours are very much geared towards tourists - with weekends
being prime time. Freestanding shops are usually open from 10.00
am until 6.00 pm - a bit later on busy weekends. Shops in the only
large shopping centre, Langkawi Fair, are open until 9.00 pm seven
days a week. However stalls found near major tourist attractions
open later and close when they are finished selling the day's preparations.
Most restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, however there are
a few restaurants that are only opened for lunch so it is best you
call them before you go. Most restaurants close at around 9pm. Some
restaurants close one day a week. It is always wise to start out
breakfast in your hotel, as hotel breakfast buffets give you a healthy
start to the day. Pantai Cenang has the widest varieties of international
dining options however there are plenty of local foods available
in Kuah and Padang Matsirat that are well worth visiting.
Langkawi is part of Kedah state so banks and government offices
are closed on Friday for the prayers at the mosque and often for
the weekend.
Banking hours are from 9.30am to 4.00pm on weekdays (except on Fridays)
and closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Government offices are open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.00
am to 4.15 pm; Thursdays from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm; closed Fridays
and the first and third Saturday of each month as well as from 12.00
noon until 2.00 pm for lunch Monday-Wednesday.
