Arriving
to Langkawi
Langkawi is easily accessible by air, land and sea. There
are several points of departure including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur
and Johor Bahru.
That said, the two major entry points to Langkawi are the Langkawi
International Airport located at Padang Matsirat on the western
side of the island and Lembong Habour along the central southern
coast.
From the beginning Malaysia's government has been eager to develop
(and promote) the island of Langkawi as a 'green' destination. That
said visitors are prohibited from driving their own motor vehicles
to Langkawi in an effort to reduce pollution & traffic congestion.
As such, most visitors end up relying on taxis and public buses.
However renting a car or motorcycle is also an viable option (and
usually less expense) for a day trip around the island. Roads are
well maintained with clear signage. As well, bicycles can be rented
for short scenic trips around your hotel.
